Hi cuties! Happy fall you all! The only thing better than that crisp feeling in the air and the changing of the leaves is having a new interior design project reveal to share! This latest project is a gorgeous modern transitional home on the south shore of Long island.
Our client—a mama of four kiddos ages 4-13 (wow!)—wanted this new family home to have a modern classic feel that was equal parts sophisticated and child-friendly.
“We worked with her on her family room, formal living room, and sunroom with the goal of giving each space a distinctive look and feel but also with a cohesive transitional through-line.”
We worked with a palette of soft grays, blues, and greens (along with some splashes of pattern here and there) to create an enduring and oh-so-comfortable vibe. Finally, our client loves to entertain and had big plans for a large Christmastime gathering, so we places a real premium on finding an abundance of comfy, cozy, and chic seating options at every turn.
The Family Room
The goal with this family room was to create a space that felt bright and airy with a casual vibe. Our client knew this would be a gathering space for the family to enjoy movies and TV shows together and where her four children would be just spending a lot of time in general.
“To make the space super kid-friendly, we went with performance and slipcover sofas and seating that promise durability, but also have a versatile look and comfortable feel.”
We also worked with our client to add pops of personality with the small decor pieces and table lamps throughout the rooms, and, most exciting of all, a statement chandelier from Oly to a bit of a wow-factor without taking away from the overall casual look.

The Living Room
The living room was one area of this modern transitional home that our client felt could use a more formal touch. With its darker wood floors and wall color, this space leant itself to a moodier motif.
“An intimate seating area—consisting of on-trend barrel chairs and a super-deep, super-cozy sofa—is centered around the living room’s fireplace, making it perfect spot for hosting friends for a fireside cocktail or a game night.”
With the darker wall color, we added some additional light and depth with a large-scale statement mirror over the console table in the back of the room. The effect is just the perfect pop of brightness, coupled with the effect of the mirror serving as wall art in a pivotal corner of the overall design vignette.

The Sunroom
Finally, we come to my **personal favorite** space in this lovely home: The sunroom! Anytime I get to work with a sunroom space, I’m a happy designer; not every home has one, and they tend to be such serene and relaxing spaces, centered about taking a moment to relax, to read, to enjoy a warm mug of coffee or chilled glass of wine!
“This space more than any other we worked with her on was for our client herself to have a special safe haven to relax and unwind in. Her vision was for it to be really bright and airy, full of light, and just a little bit girly.”
Our client liked the idea of using woven and wicker pieces to create a kind of indoor porch feeling, and she was enthusiastic about bringing in a subtly patterned wallpaper. We anchored this room with a spacious oversized lounge chair, and added some glamorous and feminine touches with the statement chandelier and acrylic bar cart.
