We love Cameron Diaz. And good lord, is there anything Kelly Wearstler can’t do? It seems everything the woman touches turns to gold: her designs, her new clothing line, her collaborations around the globe. She’s a one woman inspiration machine. There’s really no one like her; Kelly Wearstler-designed spaces always scream her name. Where design trends can grow old, and inspiration can wane, Wearstler always finds a way to breathe new life into everything she does and every space she creates.

It’s no wonder, then, that when she partnered with actress Cameron Diaz to redesign Diaz’s West Village apartment, something beautiful was made. Says Diaz in a recent issue of Elle Decor, “I blame my love of sparkly, shiny things on my Cuban roots,” says the Southern California–born actress, who points to the formative years she spent on the beach for her tomboyish ways. “But I also wanted a place that felt very homey, very tactile. Kelly is unparalleled when it comes to striking that mix.“

Coloring Your Space
Elle Decor reports that “Cameron Diaz—whose breakout role was in the 1998 comedy There’s Something About Mary—owned the 2,400-square-foot prewar apartment for several years before she decided to heed the impulse she had on first seeing the place, which featured all-white rooms done up in a vaguely nautical theme. ‘I knew right away that the space needed color,’ she says.”
A self-professed “design freak—she recently took on the role of artistic director for the fashion-accessories label Pour La Victoire—Diaz spent time compiling tear sheets of rooms that she loved rather than hiring a designer right away. ‘The majority ended up being homes Kelly had done,’ Cameron Diaz adds. That’s not surprising, given Wearstler’s fondness for spinning the color wheel with abandon through every room she creates. For Diaz’s apartment, it landed on the hues of burnished metals and lustrous minerals: malachite, onyx, rose gold, silver, and copper.”

Spunky, Sparkly, Chic
What an amazing space it is, right? It’s so Cameron Diaz (eclectic, smart, spunky, chic, sparkly), but also, so very Wearstler. It’s sexy, without being flashy. Which is pretty much an accurate description of the actress herself, don’t you think? There are few homeowners who would agree to lacquered emerald green cabinets in the kitchen, especially when paired with unsealed brass countertops that show every imperfection. But this doesn’t bother the actress, not in the least.

Live Inside Your Jewelry Box
Wearstler, whose recent clothing and accessories line debuted to high acclaim, tells the magazine that the kitchen is a bit like “living in a jewelry box.” But of course, Kelly, but of course. We think, however, that the living room is a bit closer to bits and baubles, what with its rose colored walls, metallic accents, and pieces that look like, if shrunken just a tiny bit, could easily fit within Wearstler’s own jewelry line.

Then, of course, there’s the master bedroom. A serene yet sparkling space that features Frette linens, a white chair upholstered in uber-plush mohair, and an onyx hand-troweled plaster wallcovering that recalls the look of a weathered leather bag. In truly Wearstler style, the room’s finishes are luxe from the inside out. Drawers are lined in raw black silk, the back sides of doors are clad in hammered metal, and the interiors of closets are covered in custom wallpaper or in vivid paint.

The guest bedroom and master bath are no different; luxe spaces that scream Wearstler with a serious dose of Diaz. Diaz was so taken with the process, in fact, that she thinks she’d consider designing professionally if the acting thing doesn’t work out (though, if her rap sheet is any indication, we’re pretty sure her acting career is already pretty fabulous). “I’m really going to miss those four-hour-long meetings with Kelly. I got to look at, touch, and talk about beautiful things,” she says. Ah, Cameron Diaz. Don’t we all love to do that? Just kidding. We’d happily hire Diaz to design our space, if the results looked anything like this.
