Lucky you, and lucky us—we had the pleasure of collaborating with the Queen of Tonal Neutrals, Sita Montgomery, on her home office design renovation. Here are some burning questions that we had about how she balances work life, three kids, and her gorgeous interior design practice!
Sita Montgomery on Her Office
Q. What is the size of the home office design space?
A. I am fortunate to have a dedicated home office which is fairly large. The office is about 15ft x 12ft with a large walk in closet. The closet stores my printer, samples, catalogs, etc. out of sight and behind closed doors, which allows me to keep the rest of the office space aesthetically pleasing.
Q. What was the desired home office design style and do you think you accomplished it?
A. I wanted a space that was reflective of me and my design style. I am definitely a girly girl. My design style and fashion choices tend to be casual with a bit of sophistication. I love a neutral space with a bit of color and my closet is filled with gray, black and navy. Overall, I wanted to achieve a soft, timeless, transitional look. I think I did it!
Q. How did you start this process? Is there a specific piece—desk, chair, or fabric—that kickstarted the direction of this room?
A. The idea for the built in cabinetry backed by the aqua metallic sisal wallpaper was the jumping off point. I also knew that I wanted to use blue and white in the space. Those brass sconces were a must have for me too! Next, I selected the rug and desk. The home office design came together pretty seamlessly.

We love her table and chair from Berhardt—so feminine yet functional!

The brass handles and brass angled sconces add the perfect touch of modernity.
Q. The piece in this room that makes the room. Or your #IDIED (of happiness, of course) moment?
A. It has to be the brass sconces on the built ins. They went in and I gasped. They transformed the space.
Q. What was your “Oh no!” moment in this room?
A. Is is okay to say that I didn’t have one? As the space came together, every layer seemed to compliment the one before it. Like I mentioned, it came together seamlessly. That certainly isn’t always the case, but when it is, it is pretty magical.
Q. Brass vs Nickel—your thoughts?
A. Love them both, but the richness of the brass in this room is key. Everything else is so light and airy, the depth and warmth the brass brings in is key.
Q. How has collaborating with Kathy Kuo Home inspired your home office?
A. KKH has so many beautiful pieces. When I saw those blue and white jars on the site I knew they would be perfect for the space. I styled the entire built in around this beauties! The horn accent table, also from KKH, brings another element of depth and richness the space needed to feel balanced. The range of pieces that KKH has to offer makes is super easy to put together a well curated space. The KKH team is top notch too! Truly, KKH is a joy to work with.

Notice that little gold floral foliage dish. It’s an elegant (but subtle) touch to any room. We can think of a million places in the home for these.
