Fall is here! Or, it’s almost here. This New York end-of-summer heat and humidity kind of has us feeling like a wet sponge before it’s wrung. But regardless of the weather, autumn is approaching, and we’re stepping into September with our five favorite fall trends (and top tips from some friends of the Kuotes). Turns out, it’s not all spiced pumpkin lattes this year (but in case you haven’t heard, Starbucks pumpkin lattes will now feature actual pumpkin).
1. Festive Colors
We love fall colors: the auburn reds, rustic oranges, and amber yellows that wisp through the cool autumn air and crunch beneath our boots, a stunning tapestry that will all eventually fade away (apologies, the autumn aesthetic gets me all literary). And although the Kuotes is a huge fan of neutrals (which are always in), you’ll find this year’s fall styles exploring a festive color palette made up of fun olive greens, serene teals, rosy pinks, and deep berry colors like marsala wine, plum, and midnight blue.

“Navy velvet! Plush, cozy, dark & saturated– it’s everything you want in a fall fabric. It’s been trending for a while but I believe it’s going to hit its design stride this season.”-our friend Roxy Te from Society Social
2. Golden Glamour
Show me the bling. For the past few seasons, home decor has been verging on the sleek and modern with straight lines and simple shapes, but this season, the leaves are changing. Expect home interiors this fall to be filled with ornate beauty: exquisite detail, lots of shiny metallic, and creative contours and shape…all while maintaining simplicity and elegance. Seem impossible? Think the home decor found in our new Modern Classic collection for furnishings of easy opulence.

3. Hair on Hide
Hair on hide pieces make a statement. They add the perfect amount of texture to a space, and they can serve as a focal point and as a conversation piece for all of your fall gatherings. I mean, just look at the hide rug featured above. Ridiculous. It’s honestly sad to think that I have to stop looking at this photo to continue writing this post… Okay, moving on. Don’t limit your hair on hide to rugs! Don’t be afraid to accent with hair on hide with pieces like the gorgeous pillows below. These pillows are some of my personal favorites (Cal here), and they’re also big hits with Kathy and our Creative Director, Ro. So, thrice recommended!

“You don’t have to make big changes in your home each season. To change the vibe for fall, I update the throw pillows on my couch, add a cashmere throw, and buy fall flowers in place of bright pink roses.”-our friend Julia from Lemon Stripes
4. Modern Rustic
For kitchens especially, this fall we’re in love with mixing Rustic Lodge with Modern Classic appeal. This was the case for the kitchen at the Kips Bay Show House, and it will likely last for many seasons to come. Go for a large wooden table with worn, rustic driftwood qualities and pair with sleek and compelling mod chairs or stools. This look brings out the best of both elements and works in a surprising way. The homey and natural elements of the Rustic Lodge style also says “fall” unlike any of our other collections. Throw on a sweater, make some hot chai, and curl up with loved ones next to the fireplace.
“Now is the time to clean out your closet and pack up all your summer things to make room for all things textured and dramatic.”-our friend Chriselle from The Chriselle Factor
5. Autumn Lighting
Autumn lighting may be a trend every year, but it’s a tradition that inspires us. We can all recollect memories of carving out the pumpkin and placing a candle outside on the front yard, the entire neighborhood aglow in a pure, dusty orange. Or imagine reading a big, adventurous novel in the dark under candlelight. Autumn is a time of family and memories, and nothing brings on the nostalgia like warm inviting flicker of candle lanterns and sconces.
