We’re lucky enough to be New Yorkers with relatively large kitchens (key word being relative), but we dream of having a large home that will one day be filled with crisp white cabinets and hardwood floors, marble countertops and a breakfast bar big enough for both children and adults.

If you ask us, breakfast nooks encompass all we love about kitchens: small and cozy, they bring the family together over tall glasses of orange juice and morning eggs. The best breakfast nooks take advantage of otherwise awkward spaces, fitting tables and seating areas into corners that would otherwise be left alone.
Breakfast nooks are the perfect spot for a casual dinner with the full family, a great spot for girls night of wine and cheese at home, and an even better place to feed the kids their guilty pleasure dinner of mac and cheese.

Interestingly enough, people seem to have a bit of trouble figuring out how to design a breakfast nook. Not that we blame them; as we said, breakfast nooks often occupy awkward spaces where other furniture simply might not fit. Our advice? Follow the formula below. All the best breakfast nooks include most, if not all, of the following: table, varied seating (we like a combination of bench and chairs), and a statement chandelier.
Use those three pieces as your foundation, then add pillows, wall art, place settings and more to complete the space. We promise, if you start with a good table, a gorgeous chandelier, and varied seating, the rest is a piece of cake.
