Living In: One Kings Lane’s Susan Feldman’s Hollywood Hills Home

Did you catch our recent post about One Kings Lane's Manhattan offices? Perhaps you read our little dedication to the founders, Susan Feldman and Alison Pincus, and how we so respect their business savvy and design sense. Missed all that? Well, you can read it here. In the meantime, though, don't touch that dial – because Domaine featured Feldman's Hollywood Hills home last week, and it is a feast for the eyes. A traditional 1930s style home with great bones, the space is one that Feldman and her family fell in love with the moment they stepped through the door. 

“We were like, this is it! The house just has really great bones and a certain kind of warmth to it,” she says. With some help from interior designer and friend Kenneth Brown (and her OKL shopping habit), Feldman filled the space with pieces that reflect her eclectic, vintage-meets-contemporary aesthetic, and created that cozy, inviting vibe that suits her love for entertaining friends and family.

Having lived in Manhattan for years, Feldman wanted something all New Yorkers want someday: space to entertain. And with some creativity, she got just that:  “I can fit about fourteen people in the dining room, but almost two years into living in the house I realized we have this sunroom area that I could remove the furniture from and put in two or three tables instead—last year I sat 30 people there for Thanksgiving.”

The One Kings Lane mantra is one we love – design is never done – and it's one Feldman embraced as she began to decorate her new home. Starting with a neutral, classic base that complimented the great lines of the home, she layered in accessories to bring color, texture and character in the rooms. A quick look through the images reveals Feldman is a collector through and through. Matches, vintage brass letters, boxes – you name it, she's got it in spades. A true designer at heart, she says: “I usually don’t come back from a trip without buying some unique, interesting box. You can never have too many accessories, so you can keep buying them and changing things up.”

“I have this theory that you should decorate with colors that you look and feel good in, like with clothing,” Feldman says of picking the palette for the home’s interior. And, as with dressing, she identified what her walls would be wearing before she started adding accents. “Its great to do the wall colors and the floor and window treatments first, and then everything else kind of comes along with that.”
